Florida Statute 316.172 states if any vehicle on any road or highway approaching a school bus that is stopping or is stopped showing an extended Stop sign must come to a complete stop and shall not proceed until the Stop sign is withdrawn. The penalty for a violation of 316.172 can be fined $100.00 to $200.00. If the driver commits a second violation within five year the driver’s license may be suspended for up to one year. If a driver passes a school bus on the right-hand side the minimum fine is $265.00 for a first offense. If a second offense occurs with in five years and additional fine of $265.00and the driver’s license can be suspended for 180 days to one year and a mandatory court hearing.
